Today I will be exploring the Adventure genre in Media. Films under this genre typically are written for a male audience. The lead character in this genre is typically a strong, brave man after all. A sense of heroism is always important for the lead in an adventure movie. This heroism is displayed in a goal that the character has to reach while in a time constraint as well as being faced with obstacles, whether they be monsters, evil nemeses, or conflicting emotions. There is also usually a great deal of music to heighten the mood in these movies. Some examples of an Adventure genre film are Raiders of the Lost Ark, Back to The Future, and Star Trek. (It is important to note that adventure can be a broad genre, so it is often coupled with other genres to make a more appealing story)

This genre usually contains these elements. An event beginning the story that leads into a dangerous or exciting experience. This is usually where the character is introduced. After that, the character is often thrown into a new setting with obstacles and risk. This leads up to the climax of the film which helps resolute the character. They show change after all they've been through. The problems are solved and the character is victorious. Movie trailers of adventure movies always have a deep voiced narrator over booming music, slowly rising. These trailers typically depict the character in stressful situations and when it seems as if the character is going to face doom, the trailer ends. This is to create tension, something adventure movies prioritise.

A good film example for this genre is Star Wars. Luke is introduced as just an average kid until he receives a message to show Obi Wan about Princess Leia requiring help. The setting changes as Luke goes on to the death star to retrieve Leia, there are many obstacles such as storm troopers and the infamous Darth Vader. The climax of the movie is when Luke destroys the Death Star and shows that he changed from a somewhat rebellious kid, to a hero. The rest of the Star Wars movies show this, but in their own ways. The movies with Anakin Skywalker turn a somewhat heroic man into an evil one. Several twists can be put onto the adventure genre to make it more exciting.

Another example of a film that does the adventure genre well is The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy begins in a colorless town in Kansas. She gets taken to a different setting and meets new characters. She finds out about the Wizard of Oz and seeks him. Along the way she runs into the Wicked Witch of the West, who tries to foil her plans. The characters defeat her and reach Oz. He tells them the truth they've been seeking was inside them the whole time. This allows the characters to change as they had helped Dorothy through the several challenges to get to Oz.

A few more examples of this genre in films are Raiders of The Lost Ark, Jumanji, Pirates of The Carribean, Alice in Wonderland, and Life of Pi.
